Im Oktober 2015 fasste die damals 15-jährige Namkyi mit ihrer Schwester Tenzin Dolma einen Entschluss: Im osttibetischen Ngaba hielten sie Porträts des Dalai Lama in die Höhe und forderten lautstark „Freiheit für Tibet“ und die „Rückkehr des Dalai Lama“. Danach begann ihr Martyrium. Die Schwestern wurden von chinesischen Sicherheitskräften verhaftet und sechs Tage und Nächte verhört. Dabei wurden sie immer wieder geschlagen und getreten, Essen und Schlaf verweigert. Namkyi dachte, es wäre vielleicht besser, zu sterben. Nach der Verlegung in eine andere Haftanstalt wurden sie und ihre Schwester in einem Scheinprozess zu drei Jahren Gefängnis verurteilt. Unter Gefahren gelang Namkyi im Jahr 2023 die Flucht nach Indien zum Exilsitz des Dalai Lama, der ihr eine Audienz gewährte. Eine Begegnung, die sie als heilsam beschreibt. Namkyis trauriges Schicksal ist kein Einzelfall. Als ICT fordern wir ein sofortiges Ende von Folter und Misshandlung und den Schutz der religiösen Rechte der Tibeter. Wir werden Chinas Verbrechen, z. B. vor dem UN-Menschenrechtsrat, anprangern und deren Aufklärung einfordern. Bei der Bundesregierung und der EU werden wir uns für Sanktionen gegen die Verantwortlichen stark machen.
