Masterpiece Movie Art
Growing up in the 70s, was a time when the family watched TV together on Saturday afternoons. So after professionally wrestling was over my Dad, brother and I use to watch many of the classic detective reruns like Charlie Chan, Sherlock Holmes and comic legends , Abbott & Costello. . Before there was Sherlock Holmes, before James Bond there was Honolulu Detective Charlie Chan. Beginning in 1931 with the first Chan film, “Charlie Chan Carries On”. The first Charlie Chan was actor Warner Oland, who made 15 films before his untimely death in 1938. Oland was replaced with Sidney Toler who made 22 Chan films before his death in 1947. Roland Winters would take over for Toler and go on to make six more Chan films for Monogram Studios. . I can’t explain why, but I have so much fun watching the classic Chan films. One of favorite Chan films is “The Black Camel” ” with Warner Oland and Bela Lugosi. So you can image how excited I was when I acquired a Mega Rare Black Camel lobby card with Bela Lugosi in the scene. . Unfortunately three of the original Oland Warner Chan films are lost forever. . Fortunately for Chan and classic film fans, most all Chan films are available on You Tube. Click Here. . Meanwhile, we just acquired a large collection of Vintage Charlie Chan movie poster lobby cards. But, what you may not know is this era of 1930s and early 1940s, the studios like Monogram produced some of the most spectacular high quality lobby card graphics. The bad news? Most vintage movie paper in the late 1930s/early 40s was destroyed for the WW2 Paper Drives. . What you will see in the coming week as we add more of this coveted Chan Collection are some strikingly beautiful vintage lobby card art with stunning vibrant vintage colors. Much like what you see in the Chan lobby card image above. . So stay tuned as Cvtreasures will be adding these gems. Meanwhile take a look at our Charlie Chan and iconic classic Detective treasures HERE ...
