Palestine 1936: The Great Revolt and the Roots of the Middle East Conflict

with Oren Kessler

Fully to understand the two-state solution in the context of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict means going back to its origins in the 1930s, and specifically to the Arab Revolt and the Peel Commission Report. How did that pivotal moment shape the region's trajectory? What continuities exist? What lessons can we learn today from the debates then?

Oren Kessler is the author of Palestine 1936: The Great Revolt and the Roots of the Middle East Conflict [Rowman & Littlefield]. A Tel Aviv-based analyst, he has worked at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, the Henry Jackson Society, the Jerusalem Post, and Haaretz English. He holds a BA from the University of Toronto and an MA from Reichman University (previously, IDC Herzliya).

The Middle East Forum, an activist think tank, deals with the Middle East, Islamism, U.S. foreign policy, and related topics, urging bold measures to protect Americans and their allies. Pursuing its goals via intellectual, operational, and philanthropic means, the Forum recurrently has policy ideas adopted by the U.S. government.
