The Australian Government has announced $18.8M for digital health investment through the BioMedTech Horizons program, delivered by MTPConnect. Melbourne Dental School received $1M of the funding to implement an oral cancer clinical trial, using a hand-held confocal laser endomicroscope to diagnose cancerous tissue in real time. US researchers have discovered a link between gum disease, and the microbial environment of the mouth, with cancers of the stomach and esophagus. Clinical trial CAPTURE is currently recruiting Australia-wide to improve progression free survival rates for patients with metastatic breast cancer that is ER positive and HER-2 negative.
