Good morning, Marketer, and lightning strikes (at least) twice

How many of you were affected by the Marketo Engage disruption last week? Here at MarTech, we certainly noticed it. The issues were resolved within a day with Marketo Support telling us: “We have received a response from our Engineering team explaining what happened yesterday as per their investigation, a planned IMS certificate change from an existing certificate type to a new one disrupted a subset of Adobe products and services. This group of Adobe products and services was not yet updated to be compatible with the new certificate at the time it was replaced, causing the disruption.”

Oops. Sounds like a ball got dropped. But it’s not the most embarrassing thing that could cause an outage. Imagine a marketing automation platform simply forgetting to renew their domains (at a staggering cost of about $40). Did that really happen?

Yes, and it was Marketo too, back in 2017. I guess I have a long memory.
