Hello, Tuesday is when we look at the latest planning stories impacting your lives in and around Preston. IKEA has announced expansion plans in Preston - four years on from the controversial scrapping of proposals for a superstore at Bamber Bridge. The city is one of three North West locations that will house new Plan & Order Points. Although much smaller than a standard IKEA store, the units will be packed with information and samples, but there will be no products to take away or food for sale on site. Elsewhere, drivers dodging bus gate cameras in Preston city centre by using an illegal shortcut could soon find their plan thwarted - by another set of cameras. Lancashire County Council is set to ask the government for new powers to fine motorists for committing so-called ‘moving traffic offences’ - including breaching turning bans and driving in the wrong direction along one-way streets. If the authority gets the green light for the idea, it means that automatic number plate recognition cameras could be set up at two new locations in the city in an attempt to deter drivers from breaking existing rules. In other news, building work is due to start on Preston's new multi-million pound leisure and entertainment complex with a cinema, bowling alley and restaurants. And a pub that has stood derelict for more than a decade is set to be converted into apartments. Thanks for reading, Adam adam.lord@nationalworld.com |
