VIDEO: The City of Amboy is set to welcome hundreds of firefighters from across the region in the spring. The Amboy Fire Department will host their bi-annual Fire and Extrication School in April. This will provide classes for about 500 firefighters from around seven different states. There will also be 80 instructors in Amboy for the event. For the Amboy Fire Chief, he said the classes will make a big impact on the city. "Brings some economic value to the community. The community supports the fire department 100% so we enjoy that the people attending the school get to buy gas here, buy drinks, buy pop, water," Jeff Bryant said. He also said extending their reach beyond just their own department is what it's all about as they all work to gain more skills and ultimately, help more community members.

An investigator with the Peoria Fire Department determined a fire at a vacant house in South Peoria was intentionally set. The fire, which occurred in the 3000 block of West Latrobe Street, was quickly put out by firefighters, the department said in a news release. Firefighters were called the house which is near Trewyn Middle School a bit after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a fire at one-story house. When they arrived, they saw smoke and flames coming from the building. There were no occupants found in the building, which was determined to be uninhabited. No one was injured. Damage was estimated to be about $5,000.

A fuel tanker truck crashed, exploded, and erupted in flames on Florida's Turnpike in west Boynton Beach on Friday morning, shutting down all lanes of the highway and causing major traffic backups for miles. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue said the fiery wreck happened on the Hypoluxo Road overpass, just north of Boynton Beach Boulevard, shortly before 6 a.m. The tanker was the only vehicle involved in the crash, and amazingly, the driver escaped with no injuries. "The impact of the crash split the tanker open and the fuel was actively burning, sending a large plume of black smoke that could be seen from far away," Palm Beach County Fire Rescue said in a written news release. Fire officials said the semi truck was carrying approximately 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel and 7,500 gallons of gasoline.

VIDEO: All lanes of Highway 41 at Minter Road are open again after being closed for hours by a crash involving a Spalding County fire engine and a utility truck Thursday afternoon, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety. The crash occurred at 1:55 p.m. on Highway 41 northbound just south of Minter Road, the department said. Northbound lanes and one southbound lane were closed for around four hours before being reopened at 5:50 p.m. The department said a Spalding County fire engine was parked in the left lane of Highway 41 northbound Thursday afternoon with its lights activated while the crew was responding to a crash in the south lanes. A bucket truck traveling north in the left lane crashed into the back of the fire engine and overturned, trapping the driver in the truck, the department said.

VIDEO: Emergency crews across Las Vegas knew exactly how to handle an active shooter because they did it before on October 1, 2017. After 60 people were killed, departments across Clark County studied what could have been done differently. Departments developed specific protocol and training in the years following what would become the deadliest mass shooting in the country. "What I think was most amazing to me was there was seamless integration regardless of what kind of uniform you were wearing, there was zero hesitation and they just executed unbelievably well," said Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. He credited that to the joint training conducted across multiple jurisdictions including LVMPD, Clark County Fire, Community Ambulance, and other departments.

VIDEO: The North Haven Fire Department wants you to stay safe this holiday season, so they're raising awareness about potential hazards in your home. The department hosted a public safety demonstration on Thursday, where they converted a shipping container into a makeshift home with a Christmas tree. North Haven Fire Chief Paul Januszewski said the real-time scenario shows how fast a fire can spread. "Having a real Christmas tree in your house, especially one that's dry, is almost the equivalent of having gasoline sitting in your living room," Januszewski said. The "gasoline" fueled the fire, and within five minutes, the living room setting was set up in flames. But there are safety tips to keep in mind, like making sure you water your Christmas tree.
