2 Aurora Firefighters Hurt During Hazardous Materials Incident Authorities in suburban Aurora say that two firefighters suffered injuries while responding to a hazardous materials incident on Thursday morning. According to fire officials, firefighters were called to a building in the 600 block of West Illinois for an odor investigation. Employees reported that two chemicals had been accidentally mixed at the location, which created a vapor cloud that filled the room. One employee that was in the room at the time was able to escape safely, while 50 other workers also evacuated the facility without incident. Ultimately two firefighters, both of whom were wearing protective clothing and using SCBA bottled oxygen entered the area, and immediately felt a burning sensation around their mask seals. VIDEO: Multiple crews battle massive fire at southeast Indiana farming co-op Multiple departments battled a massive fire in Dillsboro, Indiana, Thursday evening. According to officials, the fire started around 4:35 p.m. on U.S. 50 at Laughery Valley AG, a farming co-op. Area residents said the plant usually closes around 4:30 every day. More than 10 fire departments have responded to the scene. Dillsboro EMS tells WLWT plant workers were able to make it out of the building in time. Officials said there are no injuries reported at this time. Officials said crews battled the flames for close to six hours. Now, teams are on scene going through the debris of what's left. Emergency crews closed westbound lanes on US-50 for public safety while they worked to put out the flames. "When I arrived, it had a heavy smoke coming out of the building, flames coming out of the middle of it as well. At that point, it was basically just trying to get resources here to help contain this fire," Dillsboro fire Chief Jason Sullivan said. WKBW-TV ABC 7 BUFFALO North Carolina fire department hires full-time psychologist, among the first fire departments in the state to do so First responders face traumatic experiences and emergencies everyday. "Those sights and sounds stick with us throughout our life, so the more those build up, the more sometimes it starts to wear on us," said Northern Wake Fire Dept. Chaplain and Firefighter Lauren Deer. When Deer came back from her first fatality call, she didn't know how to handle it. That experience led her to becoming the fire chaplain for the Northern Wake Fire Dept. Deer spends time building relationships with firefighters, leading conversations after major incidents and connecting firefighters to mental health resources. According to a 2021 CDC blog, firefighters are more likely to die by suicide than in the line of duty. "I think the most important thing is just support from the chiefs of the department and for the firefighters to know that their department cares about them," Deer said. WNCN-TV CBS 17 GOLDSBORO New Jersey fire department swears in 21 new firefighters, bringing total to 682 "We have a distinguished, prestigious, and proud fire department, which is visible in the heroic actions of our firefighters every single day," Mayor Steven Fulop said at the ceremony. The newest firefighters will be spread throughout the city's 28 fire companies located citywide. The JCFD averages approximately 14,000 emergency responses per year. "This past summer, we grew the number of Fire Companies from 26 to 28 for the first time since the 1930s, and our new firefighters will be assigned to firehouses spanning the City to further enhance fire protection," added JCFD Chief Steven McGill.
