| VIDEO: Firefighters combat large flames at an Alton house fire Firefighters are battling a large house fire in Alton early Friday. The fire is at a house on Alby Street in Alton, IL, and is producing visible flames and large billows of smoke. All residents of the house were able to get out, and no injuries have been reported. LOUIS Rochelle Fire Department breaks ground on mutli-use training facility VIDEO: From planning to reality, Rochelle along with the Lee-Ogle County Protection District officially broke ground on their new multi-use training facility. Back in 2020, the city donated the 15-acre land, as a way to alleviate stress of moving fire crews across the state for training and learning essential practices to better workers. Rochelle Fire Chief Dave Sawlsville expressed his gratitude and appreciates the city of Rochelle for their partnership in making the facility a reality. "The staff and I are eager to get their hands on everything and get in there and doing some training, they are going enjoy it," he said. "Before we couldn't do live fire training without fire structure, so if someone had an abandoned house or building you know that was the only way we had live fire training, now this place will be that home for us." WREX-TV NBC 13 ROCKFORD Close call for Peoria firefighter as fire destroys home VIDEO: The Peoria Fire Department released more details Thursday evening about a fire earlier in the day that led to an emergency mayday call when a firefighter got separated from his crew. They were fighting a fire that destroyed a home in the 2200 block of Northeast Madison Avenue, in Peoria's North Valley. Firefighters got the call about 10:50 a.m., and they spent about 4 1/2-hours on the scene. The mayday call came when several firefighters were trying to put out the fire in the basement. The firefighter became separated from the group, and a Rescue Intervention Team found the firefighter, who was not injured, Battalion Chief Steve Rada said in a news release. Rada said 43 firefighters were called to the scene. Because of heat, fire and heavy smoke, firefighters were not able to prevent the fire from spreading to the first floor, which eventually collapsed into the basement, said Rada. | Fire destroys home in California that helped people in need PHOTO: A predawn house fire in a neighborhood near Chollas Lake displaced 11 residents Wednesday and left a firefighter injured, authorities reported. The blaze erupted about 5 a.m. in a detached garage next to a home in the 3100 block of Chateau Way in Lemon Grove, Heartland Fire & Rescue spokesman Andy McKellar said. The flames engulfed the outbuilding before spreading to the eaves of the residence, then into its attic and living quarters, McKellar said. The residents were able to safely escape the fire prior to the arrival of emergency crews. It took firefighters about 45 minutes to get the blaze under control, with the job complicated by heavily cluttered conditions inside the house, the spokesman said. A firefighter who suffered a minor shoulder injury while working to douse the flames was taken to Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa. "One is the HAAS safety cloud. It's an alerting system that alerts drivers that are using Apple maps, or if you're using Waze, or if you have a Jeep, Chrysler or Dodge make that's 2008 or newer, this system will actually alert you when the fire truck is approaching you," explained Deputy Chief Mike Consie. "So it calculates rates to determine if the fire truck and your vehicle will actually intersect, whether it's head on or to the side and it alerts the driver, it will tone down your stereo and it will actually pop up an alert saying ‘warning, emergency vehicle approaching'." Once the Quint 4 arrives on scene and is placed in park, the vehicle will automatically set a geofence up around it. WDIO-DT ABC 10 DULUTH Man gets 12 years for 2021 apartment shooting, explosion that wounded Texas firefighters The man who shot into a southeast Oak Cliff apartment in 2021, severing a gas line and causing an explosion that injured several people, including Dallas firefighters, was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Wednesday, according to the Dallas County District Attorney's Office. Phillip Dankins, 30, was sentenced to 12 years on a drug charge and 12 years on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm, the DA's office said. The sentences will be served concurrently. According to court documents, Dankins shot into a unit where his girlfriend and son were living at Highland Hills Apartments in September 2021, rupturing a gas line inside. Hours later, firefighters responded to the complex for reports of a gas leak. Dallas Fire-Rescue Capt. Christopher Gadomski, Driver Engineer Ronald W. Hall, Officer Pauline Perez and Officer Andrew Curtis were among those dispatched. The 18-wheel tractor-trailer truck became wedged about a mile into the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel on Thursday morning, and it took responding crews around two hours to remove the vehicle, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. "This driver blatantly ignored numerous highway warning signs and a Bridge and Tunnel Officer who tried to stop it from entering the tunnel," MTA Bridges and Tunnels President Catherine Sheridan said in a statement.
