The Oak Forest Bowling Center was destroyed after a massive fire early Saturday morning. In a news release, the Oak Forest Fire Department was called to the bowling center around 2:30 a.m. in the 15200 block of South Cicero Avenue. About 12 other fire departments were dispatched to help fight the massive three-alarm fire. Two employees were inside when the fire started but they were able to get out safely, fire officials said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Dozens of people stopped by on Saturday to look at the remains and reflect on their memories. "To come down this street today and see that building in like six or seven hours completely gone is crazy," Anthony Petties said. It's been a long-standing staple for decades and it has remained in the hands of the same family. In addition to the 32 lanes, there was also a restaurant and an outdoor recreation area.

A fire reignited at the Shell Deer Park Chemical Plant, several hours after it was extinguished on Saturday. According to the Deer Park Office of Emergency Management, the fire has rekindled and firefighters are back putting it out. The fire was still burning on Sunday. The city of Deer Park said officials have gone over their wastewater storage capacity because they are using a large amount of water on the fire. Runoff water is also being moved toward a channel. The city expects to continue to use more water to fight the blaze. Sunday evening, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted an update saying the fire continues to burn, but is contained to a controlled zone. Gonzalez said runoff water was directed to the Houston Ship Channel as part of a controlled discharge and boom has been deployed to prevent any product from entering the channel.

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service was held Sunday in Emmitsburg, Maryland, to honor 144 fallen firefighters. The event, hosted by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF), was held at 10 a.m. The 42nd National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend events honored 144 fallen firefighters; 79 firefighters who died in 2022 and 65 who died in previous years. On Saturday, a candlelight service was held at 7:30 p.m. This is the first time the memorial weekend was held in May rather than October, as it has been for decades due to the frequent uncertainties of October weather along with potential federal government shutdowns, according to the foundation.

VIDEO: A first responder that tossed his cookies ended up helping a bakery go viral on social media. An apology in the form of a gag cake has drawn millions of eyes to a St. Albans sweets shop. Jacob Hernandez is a Charleston firefighter who took his annual physical agility test in March. "I get about halfway through the test after doing the Kyser test of evolution and I can feel it coming," Hernandez recalled. The first responder admits his nerves got the better of him and he got sick on the course, but was able to finish. "There's a tradition here. After you pass your year test you buy steaks and desserts for everybody," Hernandez said. That's when he reached out to Lil' Bit of Heaven Cupcakes. Owner Teri Blevins spoke with Eyewitness News about the conversation.
