Several departments respond to laundromat fire in Cahokia Heights VIDEO: A fire destroyed a laundromat business in Cahokia Heights, Illinois. The fire broke out on the 1900 block of Camp Jackson Road, where the ‘Best Wash' laundromat is a complete loss. First responders got the call around 1:30 a.m. after a passerby noticed flames shooting from the building. Cahokia Heights Fire Chief Stephen Robins shared that the business was fully involved upon arrival. The fire eventually grew to two alarms, with a total of eight different departments responding. "It was heavily involved when we got here; fire throughout the building," Robbins explained. "Like I said, there was a partial collapse of the building prior to our arrival and the roof had collapsed down onto the entire building." Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. KTVI-TV FOX 2 ST. LOUIS Springfield Fire Department now using new technology to alert drivers to move over VIDEO: The Springfield Fire Department is now using new technology to alert drivers when they are responding to emergencies. The new system is called the HAAS Alert Cloud. It connects the emergency lights of a firetruck and a driver's navigation system. "The alerting system will give people an update if there are any accidents up ahead or if our emergency vehicles are inbound from a direction coming from behind or wherever to let them know to get over," Nick Zummo, Division Chief at SFD, said. The Springfield Fire Department has added the HAAS Alert's Safety Cloud Digital Alerting to its system. Drivers will now receive digital alerts when an emergency vehicle is nearby via in-dash systems. The goal is to reduce collision risks and facilitate the state's move-over laws. VIDEO: Colorado construction site erupts into flames An Aurora construction site erupted into flames just after midnight Thursday. Crews continued to put out hotspots hours later. The building is a planned multi-family complex off the intersection of S. Aurora Parkway and S. Addison Court. No one had moved in just yet, according to Aurora Fire Rescue. There were no injuries, AFR tweeted Thursday. Because it was a new build, fire hydrants were limited, to water down the area. The building was close to the highway, so firefighters set up on E-470 to get a better hold of the flames, public information officer Andrew Logan for Aurora Fire said. The move shut down northbound E-470 near Gartrell Road for a time. That stretch of the highway has since reopened. Aurora Fire Rescue tackled the fire from both the air and the ground. KMGH-TV ABC 7 DENVER Fire departments in one Texas city updating procedures after multiple parents surrender children VIDEO: Adults have surrendered children at fire stations in Fort Worth multiple times since September, prompting the fire department to update procedures and prepare stations for the possibility of more drop offs. The surrenders have happened at least three times, involving a total of seven children, at stations on the south side of the city. On a fourth occasion, someone found a young boy walking alone on the street, and brought him to a station. In each case firefighters were able to either care for the children until Child Protective Services or a private crisis intervention agency was able to assist, or police were able to follow up and confirm that the child was being cared for. Fire stations are included as safe places where newborn babies up to 60 days old can be dropped off, under the state's Safe Haven or Baby Moses law.
