VIDEO: A warehouse in Mahomet was destroyed Saturday evening when a fire tore through it, waking neighbors up as a series of explosions rocked the area. Officials with the Cornbelt Fire Protection District said on Facebook that their firefighters were called around 11 p.m. to 600 Hickory Street for a report of a working fire. Crews arrived to find a massive fire burning inside the warehouse. Two vehicles parked nearby were also destroyed by the flames. Crews deployed multiple hand lines to extinguish the fire. It took about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control, but the warehouse was left in ruins. Firefighters remained on the scene throughout Sunday to put out hot spots. Neighbors were shocked to see such a scene in their small town.  

VIDEO: A Norwood man is in jail Monday after being arrested in connection with two residential fires that occurred within the past week. Troy Smith, 34, was booked into the Peoria County Jail on two counts of aggravated arson, according to online court records. According to Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins, the charges relate to incidents on Aug. 17 and Aug. 20. Both occurred in the 6800 block of West Lamoine Avenue. The first fire, Watkins said, involved a Molotov Cocktail thrown at the house at about 12:30 a.m. It was put out almost immediately and no injuries were reported. The second fire occurred at about 11:15 p.m. Sunday. Like with the first time, the Limestone Fire Department was called out to the same block on Lamoine on a report of a house on fire.  

PHOTOS: Prince George's County firefighters battled a three-alarm fire that broke out at an apartment building in College Park early Monday morning. The fire happened at the Wynfield Park Apartments, located at 10209 Baltimore Avenue. Officials told 7News' Maryland Bureau Chief Brad Bell that the fire started on a balcony and burned outside the building and into the attic. There were two minor injuries reported. Firefighters were able to knock out the flames and were checking apartments and clearing them. About 100 people from an estimated 37 units who were impacted by the fire are being assisted by the Red Cross of the National Capital & Greater Chesapeake Region.  

PHOTOS: Fourteen seniors were pulled from a Cathedral City home care facility Monday in a dramatic rescue that the city's fire chief said was unlike anything he had ever done in his 34-year career. The 14 seniors were among the 46 people who were rescued in the city after a mudflow that developed late Sunday night trapped several people in cars, homes and even a train, necessitating several rescues and leaving several people living in homes that continue to be submerged in mud. The mudflow was one of many dangerous situations caused by Hilary's path through the Coachella Valley. Hilary had been downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it arrived in the Palm Springs area, but still dropped over 3 inches of rain across the valley, flooding low-lying desert roads and damaging some homes.  

VIDEO: A Saugus firefighter who is also a decorated Navy veteran was honored on stage during the Zac Brown Band show at Fenway Park on Saturday night. Greg Cinelli was thanked for his service in front of the sellout crowd at America's most beloved ballpark. Saugus Firefighters Local 1003 shared a video of Cinelli saluting the cheering fans as Zac Brown Band played their hit song, "Chicken Fried." "God bless America. Thank you for all your service," Zac Brown could be heard saying at the conclusion of the song. Since being posted to Facebook on Sunday morning, the video has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times.

That means drivers paying attention through school zones and the constant need for more crossing guards. This year, the Unified Police and Unified Fire departments are getting creative to get the word out. They're employing a top secret weapon, a dynamic duo of actors who have a unique perspective on why it's so important to be smart and safe in school zones. This is the latest in a series of public service announcements put together by the UPD AND UFA. The actors may be small in stature, but the message they're trying to convey is huge, especially during this "back to school" time of year.
