Harristown Fire Protection District hosting table talk for firefighters across the state VIDEO: The Harristown Fire Protection District held a table talk for firefighters and retired chiefs from across the state. Participants from Niantic to Chicago were present to offer some advice and hear why they started the job in the first place. "I'm just hoping to learn from other people and to make my fire ground and our fire ground, the calls that we run, hopefully a safer environment and be able to pass this along to our firefighters and chief officers," said Fire Chief of the South Wheatland Fire Protection District, Tom Williams. The four-hour event helped remind firefighters about the danger that comes with the job, and how they can better serve their community while avoiding it. "It's for their safety. These men and women coming to help them are well trained and we're teaching them to make sure that they save their life to protect their properties," said Thomas Carbboneau, Retired Chief of the Chicago Fire Protection District. LOUIS Emergency crews battle brush fire at Tinley Park nature preserve VIDEO: Emergency crews battled a large brush fire that broke out in Tinley Park on Sunday afternoon. The blaze broke out at Bobolink Meadow Land and Water Reserve located near Central Avenue and Flossmoor Road. According to a spokesperson for the Forest Preserves of Cook County, forest preserves staff worked with Tinley Park firefighters to try and get the wildfire under control. Currently, it is unclear what may have sparked the blaze, but the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Special Weather statement at around 4 p.m. on Sunday about the elevated threat for wildfires across Chicagoland, through the early evening hours. In the statement, the NWS said strong winds gusting at 40 mph could combine with temperatures in the lower 70s and relative humidities between 30% and 35%, which would produce an elevated threat for brush and wildfires.
