VIDEO: Fallen Chicago firefighter Andrew Price, who died while battling a blaze in Lincoln Park last week, was laid to rest on Monday. Navy Pier's Aon Grand Ballroom was packed full of mourners who shared their sorrows and support for the family, friends and fellow firefighters. A husband, brother, son and uncle, Price was known for his infectious personality, always exuding positivity. "He gave a piece of himself to everyone he encountered and honestly can say I've never met anyone like him," brother Jordan Price said. Andrew Price was a 14-year veteran of the department and the widely respected driver of Truck 44. "In honor of Andrew Price…let's be thankful…," stated Commissioner Nance Holt of the Chicago Fire Department. "We never know the impact they leave on our lives." WMAQ-TV NBC 5 CHICAGO VIDEO: North Park Fire Protection District officially broke ground Monday on its new fire station. Officials say it will replace three existing buildings which all date back to the 1950's and 60's. The new facility will be less expensive to operate, more space for fire equipment and will allow for a faster response time to the community. It will be located at 1011 Harlem Road in Machesney Park. Fire Chief Joel Hallstorm says, "So, this puts us in the center of our population census this is right in the middle. It's a really appropriate response area to catch like 90% of our call volumes. So, it will help a lot of the efficiencies and how we operate, and we're excited to be here kind of in the middle of the village where we belong." Officials say it will be 20,000 square feet, private bunk rooms for the firefighters, larger classrooms, and it will allow for more community involvement during fire events. WIFR-TV CBS 23 ROCKFORD |

An abandoned motel went up in flames in Gastonia Monday night. Authorities on the scene say the blaze started as a call for a dumpster fire in the 500 block of Cox Road around 8 p.m. on Nov. 20. But when firefighters from the Gastonia Fire Department arrived, they saw the flames shooting in the air and upgraded it to a commercial fire. Firefighters believe fire started in one of the 50 rooms in the motel. Gastonia Fire Chief Phillip Welch Jr. was confident no one was inside. A dozen units responded using 65 firefighters. The Interstate 85 exit for Cox Road was closed for several hours by Gastonia Police. The hotel has been abandoned for years, according to authorities. There was no power to the building and firefighters are certain someone broke in and started a fire. WJZY-TV FOX 46 BELMONT VIDEO/PHOTOS: Emergency crews responded to Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH) after a US Navy jet overshot the runway and ended up in Kaneohe Bay, military officials said. The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) sent out the initial alert just after 2 p.m. for a "probable aircraft fire incident." According to a spokesperson at MCBH, a US Navy P-8A Poseidon aircraft was landing at the base when it overshot the landing field and landed in the Bay. Several units with Honolulu Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were called to the scene, but when they arrived they were told by military officials that all nine crew members on board the aircraft had made it safely back to shore. The P-8A is often used to hunt for submarines, and in reconnaissance and intelligence gathering, according to reporting by the Associated Press.
