Antioch fire chief says driver injured after truck crashed through grocery store VIDEO: Antioch fire officials said a car crashed through a building on Main Street Tuesday afternoon. Chopper7 was over the scene in the 900 block of Main Street after a truck plowed into Polson's Natural Foods. "Just heard a roar and a crash and stuff was flying everywhere," said owner Mark Polson. Polson was one of four people inside his family's longstanding grocery store and just about 10 feet out of the driver's path. "I had my phone in my hand calling for 911. Other people had come in trying to check on the driver," he said. Firefighters said the pickup's driver was speeding north down Main Street when he inexplicably took out a utility pole, shearing it off at the base, and smashed through the Dairy Queen's outdoor seating on a hot summer afternoon. WLS-TV ABC 7 CHICAGO Two adults displaced after Rockford house fire Two adults are displaced from a home after an early morning fire took 20 minutes to bring under control. On Tuesday, July 25 around 1:44 a.m., the Rockford Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire. The house was located in the 2400 block of Mulberry Street. The first fire truck arrived in just under four minutes and reported smoke showing from the second floor. The resident was out of the home and reported that everyone had safely made it out of the house. Fire crews spent 20 minutes bringing the fire under control. An investigation into the incident showed that the fire was accidental. WREX-TV NBC 13 ROCKFORD Peoria's 2nd annual Fill the Fire Truck Drive collects more than 800 backpacks Peoria's second annual Fill the fire truck drive will be supplying students with more than 800 backpacks filled with school supplies this year. The initiative is a partnership between the Peoria Fire Department and the Afro-American firefighters of Peoria. Last year they hoped to fill 50 backpacks and ended up exceeding their expectations by giving out more than 300. This year, they more than doubled that amount of supplies, which would fill between three and four fire trucks. Peoria Fire Chief Shawn Sollberger said he hopes to see the drive grow even larger in years to come. "You want to be able to provide for everyone, and that's why we set these lofty goals. When people line up, we want them to be able to walk away with something that will impact them positively," said Sollberger. WMBD-TV CBS 31 PEORIA PREVIOUS STATE NEWS |

"At that point, we had injuries to civilians and firefighters, but they were minor." Six people were hurt, including two firefighters. All of the injuries were described as non-life-threatening. WBTS-TV NBC 10 NASHUA Senator holds fentanyl round table as Washington state becomes overdose epicenter Why is Washington the epicenter of the fentanyl crisis? U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell posed the question at a Seattle round table she convened Monday about the deadly drug, where speakers talked about innovations happening locally and the challenges that lay ahead. The senator pointed to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention numbers showing the state had the biggest increase in the nation—more than 21%—in fatal overdoses reported between February 2022 and February 2023. One big reason, explained Robert Hammer, a Homeland Security Investigations special agent in charge of the Pacific Northwest region, is that fentanyl is extraordinarily cheap in Washington. The powerful synthetic opioid sells for as little as 80 cents a pill, about 50 cents cheaper than in California. MEDICAL EXPRESS PREVIOUS NATIONAL NEWS |
