Well-known tavern manager dies in St. Clair County apartment fire A St. Clair County woman who died in an apartment fire Monday was a well-known tavern manager. Stacy Gale, 51, was inside her apartment above Dave's West End Tavern in St. Libory, Illinois when a fire broke out around 10:30 p.m. Monday. Gale had worked at Dave's West End Tavern for ten years. The tavern's owner and two passing motorists tried to go upstairs to rescue her, but the heavy smoke and flames forced them back. "I live across the street, and when I got there at about 10:35 p.m., there were flames coming out of the upstairs apartment," said St. Libory Fire Chief Casey Trentman. Employees had been planning for the tavern's 35th anniversary in May. The owner said he doesn't know if they will reopen because there's too much smoke and water damage. KTVI-TV FOX 2 ST. LOUIS 6 injured, 2 seriously, in fire at Aurora apartment building; woman jumps to safety Six people were hospitalized early Wednesday morning after a fire at an apartment building in west suburban downtown Aurora, fire officials said. The fire broke out just before 12:25 a.m. at 15. N. Broadway, Aurora Fire Battalion Chief Jim Rhodes said. Six people needed to be rescued from the building, as they had become trapped, he said. Two people were transported in serious condition to a local hospital. A woman jumped from a third-floor window and landed on the roof of an adjacent building. The jump was about 20 to 25 feet. Another person suffered smoke inhalation. Four others suffered minor smoke inhalation and cuts, Rhodes said. The fire's cause remains under investigation. The blaze was put out about 1 a.m., but firefighters remained on the scene to determine any structural damage, temporarily closing Broadway from East Galena Boulevard to East New York Street. WLS-TV ABC 7 CHICAGO Steward house fire leaves two people displaced, house a total loss PHOTO: A house located at 2930 Herman Road in Steward is a total loss after it broke out into flames Tuesday afternoon. The call came in around 2:00 p.m. Tuesday with multiple fire departments responding. According to fire officials, nobody was injured in the fire as the two people who live in the home were not there at the time. Passing neighbors were the ones that called the fire in. Officials say the house is a total loss and it was harder to due to a lack of water supply around the home. Fire trucks had to go back and forth from nearby fire stations to grab water to bring back to the scene. WIFR-LD CBS/CW+ 23 ROCKFORD Manhunt continues after bizarre car fires in Columbia VIDEO: Adela Childress was one of seven victims left wondering what happened after multiple vehicle arsons were started early Tuesday morning in Columbia, Illinois. "The first thing when I open it, it was smoke — no flames. And then I start coughing," Childress said. She's okay, but now she's going to have to figure out what's next for her car. "Now, I'm trying to clean it up so I can go to work Thursday because tomorrow I'm off. So that's what happened," she said. The arsons happened on the 200 block of East Plum Street, South Ferkel, East Washington Street, and the 200 block of South Metter where Childress lives. "I hope that they can get the guy who's doing this to everyone," Childress said. KTVI-TV FOX 2 ST. LOUIS PREVIOUS STATE NEWS |

VIDEO: Massive 3-alarm fire destroys bowling alley in Pennsylvania A massive fire has burned down a bowling alley in Levittown, Bucks County. The fire started around 5:15 a.m. Wednesday at Levittown Lanes on the 8800 block of New Falls Road. Firefighters arrived on the scene and quickly struck a second alarm. The fire reached three alarms around 6:20 a.m. Chopper 6 was over the scene as a portion of the roof caved in. Much of the building has been destroyed. It looks like only the perimeter is left. Authorities say the fire is threatening neighboring properties, which appear to be residential homes. There are road closures in the area. This has prompted the Pennsbury School District to issue the following alert: "Please be prepared for transportation delays this morning due to a major fire on New Falls Road near Pennsbury High School. Several surrounding roads are also closed at this time. We are currently rerouting buses as needed." Several local law enforcement and rescue agencies gathered Tuesday in Southport to demonstrate and learn about a new network AT&T built with the federal government to ensure first responders don't lose communication if an area sees outages or service interruptions. Across the nation, it's been used to create a special network for first responders in situations ranging from wildfires in Colorado, to tornadoes in Kentucky, Hurricanes in New Orleans and even to the presidential inauguration. WECT-TV NBC 6 WILMINGTON Texas: Should City of Austin employees be allowed to use low-THC medical marijuana? Austin leaders are considering whether city employees should be allowed to use low-THC medical marijuana. According to a memo dated March 25, the conversation started after House Bill 1535 became a Texas law on Sept. 1, 2021. HB 1535 adds all forms of cancer and post-traumatic stress disorder to the list of qualifying conditions and doubles the amount of THC allowed in marijuana products from half a percent to 1%. On Sept. 19, 2021, the Public Safety Committee had a briefing on the law as well as the City of Austin's drug testing policies related to marijuana. In the memo sent to Mayor Steve Adler and the Austin City Council members, the assistant city manager said, "research indicates federal law and regulations effectively prohibit certain job functions from using any form of cannabis that remains illegal under federal law." KVUE-TV ABC 24 AUSTIN 111th anniversary of Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire in New York commemorated Neither a COVID resurgence or construction sheds at the site of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire—Greene St. and Washington Place— stopped committed activists from marking the anniversary of one of the deadliest industrial accidents in U. S. history. One hundred forty-six garment workers, mostly young Jewish and Italian immigrants, died when locked stairwells and exits prevented their escape from a fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory. Firetruck ladders reached only the sixth floor, while fire engulfed the upper floors. Workers on the 8th and 9th floor either burned or jumped to their death to escape the flames. The youngest was 14, the oldest 43—123 women and girls and 23 men. On the anniversary date March 25, across the street from the actual building— NYU's Brown Building then named the Asch Building, the names of those who died were written in chalk on the sidewalk. Later that afternoon, carnations appeared, each with the name of one who perished. THE VILLAGER PREVIOUS NATIONAL NEWS |
