Chicago firefighters battled a massive extra-alarm fire in a Logan Square warehouse Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The fire broke out just before midnight in the 2700-block of North Pulaski Road. The Chicago Fire Department says the fire started near the back of the warehouse. It's not clear how many people were inside at the time but no one was injured. The impacted building appears to be an industrial factory. Fire officials said the buildings next to it are still safe and intact. At one point, the fire response was raised to a third alarm and a hazardous materials response was also needed. The HazMat response was struck and firefighters remained on the scene Wednesday morning battling hotspots. The fire has forced the CTA to reroute some buses in the area. WLS-TV ABC 7 CHICAGO VIDEO: A fire has caused "extensive" damage at Chicago's Calumet Fisheries restaurant, officials say. According to the Chicago Fire Department, a fire was reported in the roof area of Calumet Fisheries on Tuesday afternoon. While no injuries have been reported, extensive damage was reported inside of the building. The fire was put out just before 2 p.m., officials said. The restaurant, a long-time fixture in the 3200 block of East 95th Street, recently underwent renovations, according to their Facebook page, and was accepting orders for Thanksgiving side dishes and entrees. According to Total Traffic, 95th Street is closed in both directions between South Chicago Avenue and Ewing Avenue due to emergency response. We will update this story with more details as they become available. WMAQ-TV NBC 5 CHICAGO |

VIDEO: A SWAT standoff turned into a fiery inferno after the suspect's Upland home burst into flames after a gunfight Monday night. The deadly shootout started around 3:15 p.m. when deputies tried to serve a search warrant at the suspect's home between North Benson Avenue and North Mountain Avenue, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. The suspect shot at deputies when they approached the home. The suspect then barricaded himself inside for several hours. After multiple attempts to negotiate with the man, deputies tried to enter the home after deploying tear gas. The suspect then set off explosives shortly before the house burst into flames. He tried to run out of the house as it burned, but died after a shootout with authorities, according to the Upland Police Department. KCAL-TV CBS 9 LOS ANGELES VIDEO: A classic symbol of firefighters rushing to a fire is on its way out. A quick visit to new fire stations in the Salt Lake Valley shows no more fire poles. More fire stations are being built without them, in this edition of Behind the Badge. New fire stations in Utah, like #125 in Midvale, have everything you may expect: firefighters and fire trucks, but no fire pole. A traditional staple for fire stations, Unified Fire Authority Asst. Chief Zach Robinson said they never planned for one when building the new station. Robinson, who helped design the new Midvale station, said they're phasing the pole out. "Right now with the construction phase we're in, with one-story fire stations, it's not been a necessary item for us," said Robinson. KTVX-TV ABC 4 SALT LAKE CITY VIDEO: A pilot was killed after a small plane crashed into a shopping center parking lot at a Texas shopping center on Tuesday, authorities said. Police in Plano, 20 miles north of Dallas, said the aircraft crashed directly outside a nail salon and Mama's Daughter's Diner, just before 6 p.m. "The pilot unfortunately lost their life in the tragic accident," police said in a statement on X. The pilot was the only person on board and has not been named while their family is informed. Remarkably, no one else was hurt and there were no reports of damage to buildings. Both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Travel Safety Board are investigating. The cause of the crash is currently unknown. NBC Dallas-Fort Worth reported that in the moments before the crash, the pilot appeared to become disoriented, citing unnamed people who have reviewed materials connected to the flight. NBC NEWS A new study by car insurance saving app Jerry, reports drivers in South Dakota are most at risk of drunk driving Thanksgiving travel traffic fatalities. The number of fatal traffic crashes over the Thanksgiving holiday rose by 24% in the two years after the COVID-19 outbreak, hitting the highest level since 2007, as more people chose to avoid air travel on what is traditionally the busiest travel holiday of the year. In 2021, the last year for which data is available, 531 people died in 479 fatal crashes during the Thanksgiving holiday period. The number of fatalities was the highest since 2017. Jerry dug into the data to learn more about what's behind those numbers. In the 10 years from 2012 through 2021, Thanksgiving ranked as the third-deadliest driving holiday of the year, behind the Fourth of July and Labor Day. DRG NEWS |
