Good morning. Temperatures will range from the teens to the 30s with mostly cloudy skies throughout the state and snow in some parts. Here's what we're talking about in Maine today.

Jared Golden will vote with Democrats on one Trump impeachment article, not the other

  • On Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Jared Golden of Maine's 2nd District — which voted for President Donald Trump in 2016 — became the first member of Congress to announce that he would split his vote on two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, saying he would vote to impeach the Republican president on an abuse of power charge and not on an obstruction charge. Golden said he found the evidence of the first charge to be "indisputable" and he made the decision "regardless of the politics." His Republican opponents in the 2020 election looked to capitalize on the decision, with their national party saying he was "trying to have his cake and eat it too."

  • In a statement that will be placed in the congressional record, Golden said Trump "crossed a clear red line" by asking the Ukrainian leader to investigate a political rival, though he also said House Democrats had not reached the threshold of "high crimes and misdemeanors" to prove the second impeachment article.

Hampden waste plant says it has customers, but no state approval, for products it’ll create from trash

  • Coastal Resources of Maine has had a hard time getting the state to approve its plans to sell off two types of end products: a fuel pellet that is made from old plastic bags, and another type of fuel that is made from paper fiber.

Before those products can be sold, state regulators must determine that they can serve as an adequate fuel source and are not hazardous to people or the environment.
As housing costs skyrocket in Rockland, officials prioritize a plan of attack
  • In 2018, 59 percent of households in Rockland were unable to afford the median home price of $168,000, according to the Maine Housing Authority. There are no current rental properties listed below $1,000 a month in Rockland, according to Zillow.  Affordable housing is a top concern in Rockland and will take priority in 2020 as officials look for ways to combat it.
Defense and prosecution paint very different pictures of Sharon Carrillo

  • Julio Carrillo was a monster, according to testimony heard over the eight days of his estranged wife’s murder trial.

But Julio Carrillo isn’t the one who is on trial.
  • In all, the U.S. attorney's office said it collected more than $19.8 million in forfeited assets last year in Maine. Much of that came from the properties and cash turned over by Stephen Mardigan, who was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for running an illegal sports betting ring.
Bangor Savings plans to acquire Damariscotta bank in $35M deal

  • Leaders from Bangor Savings and Damariscotta Bank and Trust said Tuesday they had reached an agreement for the Damariscotta-based bank to become part of the Bangor Savings Bank umbrella that has grown to 57 branches and more than $4.4 billion in assets in recent years.

The movies and TV series based on Stephen King books coming out in 2020

  • After the embarrassment of riches that was 2019 for Hollywood adaptations of Stephen King books, 2020 is shaping up to be just as big of a year for the famed Maine writer. While there’s no obvious blockbuster set to debut next year — 2017’s “IT” and 2019’s “IT: Chapter 2” made over a billion dollars worldwide combined at the box office — there are several highly anticipated adaptations coming out nonetheless, ranging from a recent bestseller to one of King’s earliest classics.
