Changes to Furlough Scheme from 1st August 

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, commonly referred to as the Furlough Scheme, will move to its next level of support that will see the Government's contribution to wages for hours not worked reduce from 70% to 60%. 

This will require all employers to contribute 20% of employees wages on the furlough scheme, which is scheduled to end on 30th September.

Self-Isolation Rules Are Changing.


Changes are being made to self-isolation rules for close contacts of COVID cases to allow essential staff in critical roles to return to work to maintain lifeline services and critical national infrastructure.

It will be possible to apply to exempt those who work in critical roles where staff shortages are in danger of putting essential services, such as health and social care, transport and the provision of food supplies at risk.

A new accreditation scheme that encourages businesses to provide secure contracts, flexible hours and payment of the real Living Wage is to launch.

The Scottish Living Hours Accreditation Scheme recognises that in addition to payment of the real Living Wage, the number and frequency of work hours are critical to tackling in-work poverty.

£70 million Investment in Youth Employment

Young people looking to enter the workforce will benefit from £70 million of investment from the Scottish Government.

The Young Person’s Guarantee aims to protect people from the economic impact of COVID-19 by offering every 16-24 year old in Scotland the opportunity of a job, apprenticeship, further or higher education, training programme or volunteering.

Funding for Seafood Sector Recovery 

Funding of £1.8 million will help Scottish seafood businesses recover from the severe economic impacts of Brexit and Covid-19.

The funding, managed by trade marketing body Seafood Scotland, will support seafood businesses to access new markets within the UK and abroad, including campaigns in Asia, Europe, North America and the Middle East.

CR Smith And Fife College Create Fast Track Programme For People Seeking A Trade

CR Smith and Fife College have joined forces to create a brand new, fast-track training scheme for would-be joiners to help address the growing demand for trade skills.
 
The programme is open to anyone aged 19 and above, who will be supported through a 10-month course in Carpentry and Joinery. Starting in September, three days a week of college-based work will be complemented by work experience at CR Smith.
