Best Practices for Coding, Billing, and Documentation

Injections and Infusions Workshop

Drug administration is one of the most common services provided by hospitals, whether it’s in the emergency department, an infusion clinic, observation, or another location. Although the rules and codes have not changed much over the years, hospital coding/charging staff continue to struggle with accurately and completely reporting these services. Challenges lie in decoding the CPT® facility coding hierarchy for injections and infusions to correctly apply all of the CPT coding rules, guidelines, and parenthetical notes, as well as ensuring that accurate and complete documentation supports each case.

Bring your entire team to HCPro’s Injections and Infusions Workshop led by expert Jugna Shah, MPH, to ensure your facility properly documents, charges, and codes for both chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy injection and infusion services, including hydration services.

You will leave this program knowing how to:

  • Use the CPT coding hierarchy to report hospital-based drug administration/intravenous injection and infusion services
  • Report initial, subsequent, and concurrent services
  • Apply all of the principles learned to clinical scenarios
  • Employ best practices for documentation of injections and infusions
  • Report drug administration services provided to patients in observation, patients with multiple encounters on the same date of service, patients receiving the same substance/drug vs. a different substance/drug, patients receiving drug administration services on the same date of service as another procedure or visit, and more
  • Accurately report modifiers -25 and -59
  • Create an internal auditing and monitoring plan

Upcoming Course:
