Critical thinking is a top concern for nurses

A lack of critical thinking can prevent nurses from being able to:

  • Draw knowledge from science and from theoretical frameworks.

  • Rely on the powers of induction and deduction to determine and classify what is occurring in the patient before them

  • Connect you to observations that may be less obvious or even invisible to others.

By developing their critical thinking skills, nurses can be better equipped to determine when to rely on standardized best practices and when to personalize or tailor interventions so that they are more effective for a given patient.

Critical Thinking: Tools for Clinical Excellence and Leadership Effectiveness provides the tools for nurses to help themselves and their staff improve their thinking and communication skills with both colleagues and patients.
