Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas, a Democrat, took to CNN's "OutFront" to slam the Biden administration for a surge of illegal immigrants in his town, which has resulted in increased crime and forced the closure of a lucrative international bridge. "You have all these thousands of people just walking in, without any consequence whatsoever," Salinas stated, adding the federal government has been silent, offering no support or plan of action. Calif. Gov. Gavin Newsom vetoed AB 957, a bill that would have required judges to consider whether a parent affirmed a child's gender identity in child custody cases. Praising the "passion and values" that led to the bill's introduction by trans advocate Democrat Assemblywoman Lori Wilson, he expressed reservations about the bill, stating, "Other-minded elected officials, in California and other states, could very well use this strategy to diminish the civil rights of vulnerable communities." Officials in El Dorado County, Calif., have rescinded a proclamation to "recognize the impact of religious beliefs on America's history" following pushback from Jewish residents and church-state separation groups, including the Freedom From Religion Foundation. The county intended to declare July "American Christian Heritage Month" before the ACLU sent a letter warning that doing so would violate the California Constitution.
