VISION OF ST. FRANCIS TAU CROSS
This ceramic relief depicts St. Francis embracing the crucified Christ on a Tau shaped plaque. St. Francis loved the Greek letter Tau and adopted it as his personal coat of arms after hearing a speech given by Pope Innocent III in which the pope referenced the Tau as mentioned in the book of Ezekiel 9:4. The image of Our Lord on the cross reaching out to St. Francis was inspired by the popular painting by Bartolome Murillo in the mid-1600's. This beautiful Franciscan plaque is hand-painted with gold details and measures 9½”H x 8"W, with a small loop-hook on the back for hanging.
These statues come from Colombia, S.A. and are meticulously hand-painted by a group of widows that have lost their husbands due to the violence occurring in Colombia.
