As the temperatures drop, so do the leaves across the state. Most of Minnesota is “past peak” for fall colors while the Twin Cities, St. Cloud and Rochester are at 75 to 100 of their full peak. There’s still a little time to see the colors.

In first test, St. Paul’s housing rent control has limited impact
The St. Paul City Council has turned back challenges to housing rental increases above a three percent limit set by voters last fall — allowing hikes more than double that to move forward.
Murder charges detail death of Maplewood toddler; man arrested

Jensen cultivated a maverick reputation in his one and only term as a state lawmaker. He often vented about how the Capitol operated. He sometimes kept allies and adversaries guessing about where he’d come down. It’s a contrast to his campaign for governor where he’s taken orthodox GOP stances favoring big tax cuts, a voucher-style education plan and a crackdown on crime.
 
At Minnesota Capitol, goat caucus meets for lunch, fights invaders
Goats and sheep have become the go-to species helping Minnesota root out invasive plants. The four-legged crews are typically seen on hillsides or in ditches. Their joint appearance Thursday afternoon outside the Capitol showed good things happen when different groups come together and keep their heads down to achieve a common goal.
Drought conditions remain entrenched across much of Minnesota
The overall percentage of the state considered to be abnormally dry or in drought was relatively unchanged from the previous week, at just under 80 percent. But within that area, the dry conditions have deepened — with more areas now formally considered to be in drought.
