Several school districts in the Washington, D.C., metro area are encouraging furloughed federal workers to apply for jobs as substitute teachers during the ongoing partial federal government shutdown. A Virginia school district also is asking them to consider jobs as teachers' assistants, substitute bus drivers, or swim instructors.
