From Orem to Oxford: Utah County’s unlikely connections to England’s oldest university
Despite being separated by "the pond" that is the vast Atlantic Ocean, Oxford's Pembroke College and Utah County's Brigham Young University and Utah Valley University have developed strong ties with one another over the years.
Perhaps one of the most notable exemplars of this connection is the Rev. Andrew Teal, an Oxford-based priest who has developed a public relationship with the global Latter-day Saint community. Teal hasn't just visited Utah — he's delivered addresses at BYU, co-authored a book with an apostle, and hosted BYU scholars and church leaders at his university.
But it isn’t just the Rev. Teal. The Oxford college that he calls home, Pembroke College, has developed unlikely ties to Latter-day Saints and to Utah County.

On July 8, Gov. Spencer Cox spoke to the Braver Angels group at Gettysburg. Just a few days earlier, he discussed his goals for the speech.
“You never convince anyone by attacking them, you actually convince them by trying to bring them along,” he said.
Cox continued: “This is not a civility initiative. This is not that we just have to be nice to each other. This is about conflict, and healthy conflict.”
