| USDA Strengthening Organic Enforcement ruling Starting March 20th, 2023, the newly passed Strengthening Organic Enforcement (SOE) ruling will be effective. While not implemented until March 19th, 2024, it’s important to know what it is and how it will change current regulations. This SOE rule is designed to reduce fraud in the organic marketplace; strengthen oversight across the supply chain of organic producers, handlers and certifiers; and improve USDA’s enforcement mechanisms. NielsenIQ Report In a new report NielsenIQ and McKinsey & Company examined sales growth for products that claim to be environmentally and socially responsible, including organic. They found that products making such claims averaged 28% cumulative growth over five years, versus 20% growth for products that made no such claims. And, on average products with multiple claims, think USDA certified organic, B-Corps and Fair Trade, grew about twice as fast as products that made only one.
