Are Your Suppliers Ready for SOE?
The USDA National Organic Program (NOP) has protected the organic brand for more than 20 years, and the Strengthening Organic Enforcement (SOE) final rule increases existing protections across the entire organic supply chain. SOE sets up tools and processes to improve farm to market traceability, prevent fraud and level the playing field for organic operations around the globe. Internationally, organic import certificates provide critical data to guide surveillance work and allow USDA to see what organic products are coming into the country and from where. SOE requires more operations in the organic supply chain to be certified. Operations that produce or handle organic products—including importers, traders and certain brokers—need to be certified to continue operating in the organic supply chain after the SOE implementation period ends. NOP is encouraging everyone involved in organic business to take steps now to make sure your operation and your supply chain partners will be ready by March 19, 2024. |
