THE COUNT: The campaign to recall New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell didn’t just fall 18,000 signatures short of its goal of 45,000. It also flooded the official counting office with thousands of duplicate pages and bogus “signatures” of cartoon characters such as Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse and other Disney figures, the registrar of voters says.

THE CURBS: Seven months of turmoil over rewriting New Orleans’ unconstitutional short-term rental law has ended with a new ordinance aimed at curbing vacation housing in residential neighborhoods.

THE COLLEGE LEADER: Loyola University has chosen a new president, a Milwaukee college administrator who will be the first Black leader of the 111-year-old Roman Catholic institution in Uptown New Orleans.
