It's the scammery for me

Happy end of February, Baltimore. I'm subbing for Alanah today, so bear with my poor attempt at imitating Gen Z lingo in this note's headline.

That headline references a new story from Holly Quinn, Technical.ly's Delaware-based reporter-at-large, about a scam in which bad actors posed as a company that was hiring and leveraged fake job offers to get people's personal information. It's a wild story that you can read below, along with a recap of takeaways from the Tech Summit House during CIAA week and news about a new cyber initiative in nearby Montgomery County.

Have you ever been party to a remote hiring scam? Know of anybody targeted by one? Or, even better, someone who perpetrated one?

If so, let us know by emailing baltimore@technical.ly. Just don't try and con us for your sake and ours.
