A line too long: Grid interconnection delays threaten states’ clean energy goals

As states look to meet their renewable portfolio standards (the laws that required them to use a certain percentage of renewable energy by a certain timeframe, such as "30 by 2030") long interconnection queues are standing in their way. That’s the focus of our lead story today. And right below that, you can see that transmission — something that could solve at least part of the problem with interconnection — isn’t getting the permitting reforms it needs in the most recent bill in the U.S. congress.

The agreement would also include provisions about a one-year deadline that would be placed on the production of environmental impact assessments for new energy projects seeking permits.
