DARWIN DAY
The 'Oosterschelde' sets sail from Punta Arenas in Chile, currently the southernmost destination during our global voyage. Last week, we welcomed Darwin Leaders from Brazil, Uruguay, the United States, and South Korea on board for their scientific projects in Patagonia.

Today, on International Darwin Day, we celebrate Charles Darwin's birthday on the Pacific Ocean. We are sailing through the Chilean fjords heading north. Darwin's birthday is celebrated worldwide. In the Dutch city Wageningen, biologist and future Darwin200 Sailor Gert van Maanen is organizing a Darwin Café, highlighting our Darwin200 Global Voyage. The Friends of the 'Oosterschelde' and the 'Helena' help us to achieve our goals. In 2023, two underprivileged youngsters from Rotterdam had the opportunity to join the sailing voyage from Salvador de Bahia to Rio de Janeiro. The crew of the 'Helena' welcomed over 800 seniors, youth, and individuals with disabilities on board for a day trip. We also continued to carry out the necessary and costly maintenance on both ships.
