Investigation continues to shake Baton Rouge police department

BY DOUG GRAHAM | Staff writer

Deputy Chief Troy Lawrence Sr., whose officer son has been accused of multiple incidents of excessive force, has been placed on administrative leave amid an FBI investigation into the Baton Rouge Police.

The federal agency confirmed last week it had opened a probe into the department over allegations linked to a BRPD interrogation warehouse, which some officers referred to as the "BRAVE Cave." Outrage over the incidents led Chief Murphy Paul to disband the department's Street Crimes unit. Lawrence was previously the commander of the unit.

The Baton Rouge Union of Police said it was "disheartened and dismayed" by BRPD's decision.

The timing could not be any better as starting quarterback Derek Carr could miss some time with a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder.

The first coconut flavor Hubig’s Pies started appearing in stores this week, as the brand continues its progressive return of flavors.

Apple, lemon, chocolate, peach and coconut are now in production, leaving only pineapple from the staple seven of yore.
