In 2016, Azerbaijan’s air cargo carrier SilkWay West Airlines and its subsidiaries received a foreign carrier air permit from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) that allowed Azerbaijani air carrier to operate both scheduled and chartered flights between Baku and New York. Ever since SilkWay West Airlines has expanded its presence in North America by adding Chicago ODR to its flight destinations. The carrier operates Boeing 787-8 freighters between the points in the United States and Azerbaijan. 

The Boeing Company is Azerbaijan’s long-term business partner. SilkWay Airlines, the largest air cargo carrier in the region mainly operates Boeing 747-400 and 747-8 freighters.

The world’s major commercial aircraft manufacturer, the Boeing Company issues the biennial World Air Cargo Forecast (WACF) that gives a comprehensive, up-to-date overview of the air cargo industry worldwide. WACF summarizes major air trade markets, identifies major trends, and presents forecasts for the future performance.
