Iowa Farmland Values Up Another 17%, Following 29% Increase in 2021
 
Interest rates might not have as big of an affect on land prices as some might think. According to Wendong Zhang with Iowa State University, 81% of Iowa farmland is fully paid for. “Farmers have a lot more cash on hand and supply chain issues led to a shortage of equipment, so the money that farmers normally spend on equipment is now devoted to land,” Zhang says.

Based on an on-farm research study, Truterra and the Soil Water Conservation Society found cover crops sequestered nearly three times as much greenhouse gas as the check fields. In addition, acres with cover crops were carbon negative, sheet and rill erosion was cut in half and wind erosion was reduced by 72%.
