IPG Photonics buying laser company for $40M

IPG Photonics announced Monday that it will acquire a laser-based systems manufacturer in order to better serve the medical device industry.

Quinsigamond Community College said last week it will announce two Blackstone Valley initiatives today in Whitinsville.

Avatar Computing, a technology solutions provider with a focus on military clients, has leased an office on Millbrook Street in Worcester.

Law firm buys space on Pleasant Street

Worcester law firm Murray & Murray has purchased an office on Pleasant Street, according to the sale's broker.

A financial services company has leased 1,480 square feet of office space in Worcester.

Neither branch has passed marijuana legislation yet, but all signs point to a conference committee eventually having to iron out details of the tax on marijuana sales, how a town can ban pot facilities and other issues, under the gun of a self-imposed June 30 deadline.

In addition to previously disclosed hiring restrictions that Gov. Charlie Baker put in place last July, his administration in April put the clampdown on certain spending it deemed "nonessential."
