A big change is coming to the iPhone — but only for some people
|
Apple has been forced to allow sideloading for iPhones, a practice that it has always opposed due to privacy and security concerns |
Apple has officially announced a slew of significant changes coming to iOS, including the ability to sideload apps from alternative/third-party app stores.
These are things that you’ve been able to do on Android for years, but not with the iPhone due to Apple's tight control over its App Store. However, when Apple releases iOS 17.4 in March, iPhone users will finally be able to do similar things – if they’re living in the EU. Apple doesn’t really want to open up iOS to app sideloading and alternative app stores, but it’s been forced to do so by new EU laws.

A couple of months later, the helicopter flew straight into the record books by becoming the first aircraft to achieve powered, controlled flight on another planet – no mean feat considering Mars’ super-thin atmosphere.
The diminutive helicopter was so adept at handling the conditions that it ended up assisting the Perseverance rover during its ongoing mission to track down evidence of ancient microbial life on the red planet ... |

Baidu’s Ernie AI chatbot to power new Galaxy S24 smartphones |
Samsung announced a bunch of AI features for the new handsets at the Galaxy Unpacked event earlier this month
|
Chinese web giant Baidu will integrate its Ernie chatbot into Samsung’s recently launched Galaxy S24 smartphones, CNBC reported.
Ernie bears similarities to OpenAI’s generative-AI ChatGPT chatbot and Google’s Bard, and here will power new AI functions unveiled by Samsung as “Galaxy AI” during its S24 launch.
They include real-time translation and interpretation, Circle to Search, AI summarization for Notes, personalized emoji, Magic Compose for messaging, one-tap photo edits, and more. Samsung hopes the advanced AI features will help it to better take on Apple, whose annual iPhone sales recently surpassed those of its Korean rival.
Baidu CEO Robin Li said last fall that Ernie “has been significantly improved compared to the online version of Ernie bot” and now “is not inferior to [OpenAI’s] GPT-4” ... |
