Broadcasters seek military veterans for tech experience

Broadcasters are working to hire military veterans in their studios for career opportunities in broadcasting because of their tech experience and IT and IP skills. The Society of Broadcast Engineers is developing a program aimed at finding recruits with military backgrounds -- particularly in communications -- to provide broadcasting careers to veterans transitioning back to civilian life.

CDC suicide data point to need for employer interventions in some careers
Researchers found that suicide rates for men working in protective services, including firefighting and police jobs, reached 34.1 per 100,000 people, while rates for women employed in the same field reached 14.1 per 100,000. The study, published in the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, tracked suicide rates by career, and the authors said employers must prioritize programs to spot and mitigate risk, such as employee-assistance programs.

Rewards, incentives or other benefits are taxable unless they meet the definition of a medical benefit or fringe benefit, the memo reads.
