Politics Trumps Science at the EPA

Once again, the Trump administration is pushing to lower air-quality standards. Tony Cox, who chairs the EPA’s Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee and is a former consultant for oil, chemical, and tobacco interests, is questioning whether breathing soot is really unhealthy. Well, let’s see... soot is known to cause respiratory ailments and increase the risk of stroke, cancer, and heart attack -- not to mention trifles like asthma, bronchitis, and shortness of breath. Could it be that Cox is more concerned with industry’s bottom line than with the public’s health?

Tell the EPA to protect public health, not polluter profits.

Decoding Food Labels

Products vying for attention at the supermarket tout their environmental and ethical superiority via food labels. Stamps and seals like "pasture raised" and "100% natural" can make it tricky to determine which producers' claims are overseen by government agencies or confirmed by third-party certifiers and which are more, well, subjective.

Check out our handy grocery store decoder to help you determine the truth behind the label.
