Baltimoreans might not consider themselves part of the DC metro area, but a premier analysis of global startup ecosystems does. 

 

Startup Genome's latest annual report on these scenes put the nation's capital at No. 17. That wouldn't quite matter in Baltimore, except that the trade and research group confirmed that it includes Maryland's biggest city in its definition of the DC ecosystem. In fact, it includes everything within a 100-kilometer radius of the district's center — an area incorporating much of Maryland, as well as parts of West Virginia and Pennsylvania. 

That said, the report did feature a quote from Mark Anthony Thomas, the CEO of the Greater Baltimore Committee, who discussed the broader global economic trends that influenced this year's rankings.
