Prof. Seyfried has waged war against the faltering dogma that cancer is a genetic disease. His 45 years of laboratory work has revived Otto Warburgโs thesis that cancer is a disease of the mitochondria, the energy-generating part of the cell. He is also mainly responsible for the renewed interest in calorie restriction, fasting, and ketogenic diets. Prof. Seyfried's book, โCancer as a Metabolic Disease,โ is a work that has fundamentally enhanced our understanding of cancer metabolism. In 2012, for the first time, the journal Advances in Cancer Treatment devoted its entire issue to a review article on this revolutionary work. The editors stated, โThis book should be required reading for all scientifically literate people who are involved in the cancer problem.โ Prof. Seyfried received his doctorate in genetics and biochemistry in 1976 from the University of Illinois, Urbana. He is currently a laboratory head and professor of biology at Boston College. In addition to his book, he is the author of 200 PubMed-listed articles, about half of which concern cancer, with a special emphasis on brain cancer. |
