Not only does Utah has a reputation for being religious, but the state has a high percentage of people who regularly attend church. The Washington Post reported on a Gallup survey in 2015, saying Utah “sits atop the list and is the only one in the nation where more than half — 51 percent — of those surveyed reported attending church every week.”
By the numbers:
55% of the state is Latter-day Saint.
22% are unaffiliated.
13% are either evangelical or mainline protestant.
5% are Catholic.
3% are atheist.
1% are Muslim.
1% are Jewish.
Less than 1% of the population are another religion like Orthodox Christians and Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Some things shouldn’t be left for the day before Christmas break. That is how Sen. Mike Lee feels about the impending government shutdown and the yet-to-be-released omnibus spending bill.
Democrats have proposed to extend government funding until Dec. 23, but the lame-duck Congress has yet to pass spending legislation to cover the rest of the fiscal year. Lee proposed the government be funded until Feb. 5, 2023, so Congress can approach the budget with a fine-toothed comb and without the threat of missing Christmas with their families.
