I don't know about y'all, but these last few days were quite a bummer for yours truly. My wife, my two dogs and myself spent Sunday sitting inside our house watching Hurricane Ida batter our Algiers Point neighborhood for hours with rain and wind. We made the decision Monday morning to head to Florida where there's air conditioning and hot showers, and this newsletter is coming to you from a hotel room in Pensacola. So, let's take a break from that nonsense and talk about football shall we? There's a lot to get to. The Saints, like a lot of us, left town. They are in Dallas, with wives and kids roaming around the team hotel, and they had a tough day Tuesday, too. The Saints have an official (but initial) 53-man roster. As Amie Just points out, this is one of the more unique roster cut days you'll encounter. The roster is bound to change in the coming days, as the Saints scour through what other teams decided they could not carry on their own 53-man roster, but for the time being Just also analyzed what the Saints are carrying with them into the regular season. Maybe it feels like it's been a few weeks since we learned about this, but really, it's only been a few days: Jameis Winston will be the Saints starting quarterback in Week 1 against Green Bay. Sean Payton spoke about that publicly for the first time today, and you should read that, because I wrote about it. Speaking of Week 1 ... where are they gonna play? The Saints are supposed to host the Packers in the Superdome on Sept. 12, but, uh, Hurricane Ida complicated things. Jeff Duncan lays out what that might mean for the Saints not only for Week 1, but in the weeks leading up to it (and potentially the weeks to follow).
