"Good evening. I'm Chevy Chase, and you're not." That's how one of the biggest players of the original "Saturday Night Live" cast of Not Ready for Prime Time Players opened the "Weekend Update" segment each week. Are the LSU Tigers ready to be prime time players? A win this Saturday over Ole Miss in Tiger Stadium (2:30 p.m., CBS) will vault LSU into a tie for the SEC West lead going into November. But are the Tigers ready for such dizzying heights in their first season under coach Brian Kelly? Kelly weighs in on that and so does yours truly in my column from Kelly's weekly Monday presser. There's quite a buffet of LSU news and stories out there, so let's get to it with the old two-minute drill treatment, shall we? LSU's season could take a big turn with win over the Rebels, but improvement in some key areas probably has to come first. The Nola brothers, former LSU and Catholic high standouts Aaron Nola (Philadelphia Phillies pitcher) and Austin Nola (San Diego Padres catcher), square off against each other in the National League Championship Series, which starts Tuesday night in San Diego. Aaron Nola is scheduled to start Game 2.Kelly talks about the adjustment LSU has made to help its punt coverage. If you haven't read a story about the Tigers' much-bashed special teams, this is a good place to start.Kelly gave injury updates on wide receiver/kick returner Jack Bech and running back Armoni Goodwin. Was Kelly calling the plays off that playsheet he was holding during the Florida game? He explains. On why running back Josh Williams and not quarterback Jayden Daniels (three touchdowns passing, three rushing) got the game ball at Florida. Daniels also didn't get a share of SEC offensive player of the week honors, either. And finally, basketball season is peeking over the horizon, as SEC basketball media days is set for Tuesday and Wednesday in suburban Birmingham. We've got a preview right here. That's all for now, folks. We'll see you tomorrow with lots more content from football, basketball and who knows what other surprises may be in store?
