Dear Reader, If you have money, I have excellent news... The government has got your back! Prime Minister Anthony Albanese recently got back from Germany where he’s been working on a deal with the G7 to introduce a global standard for ‘carbon pricing’. In other words, if Albo succeeds, climate change doesn’t need to be a problem for the well-heeled Australian! While most of us are chowing down on our yummy fake meat burgers before taking our daily stroll through the 20-minute neighbourhood... Those with the means will be able to do whatever they like: eat a fillet steak...fly overseas on a whim...buy a barbecue...a boat or even a Bugatti... PROVIDED they chuck some money to the government to ‘offset’ the carbon dioxide they pump out. Are you struggling with the logic here too? How is paying the government more money going to bring down the global temperature? Beats me. But if you’ve got the cash, it’s comforting to know that your lifestyle won’t need to suffer. For the rest of us, it’s a more sobering picture. If we manage to hit net zero, it will be the first energy transition in history that results in higher prices. Higher prices will result in lower energy consumption. Throughout history, human progress and prosperity have required ever-greater energy inputs. For the first time in 400 years, we’re going to have to survive on LESS. That’s IF net zero goes ahead. But Greg Canavan says it won’t. It can’t. And that these crazy policies are going to be walked back. Why is he so sure? You should check out his new research: NOT Zero. Sincerely, James Woodburn, Publisher, Fat Tail Commodities |
