When it comes to NHS workers, the rules are pretty straightforward: if you don’t fetishise their selflessness and dedication, you’re a monster. Exceptions may be made for managers, and those note-0found guilty of crimes, but by and large you are either of the view that health service staff are the very best of us or you are wrong.

'Why Nicola Sturgeon is starting to look vulnerable'

In case you missed it yesterday, our columnist Euan McColm wrote about Nicola Sturgeon's position looking far less secure than it once did.

He writes, "It’s not been the greatest week of Sturgeon’s political life. Exposed for using NHS and care workers as political pawns and exposed to the threat of a new and more radical SNP governing body, the First Minister looks more vulnerable than she has since taking office."

Whatever your opinion on the First Minister's current standing, it's a polarising and rivetting read. Whether you agree or disagree with Euan you can have your say in the comments section here.

Exclusive: Secret Service paid Donald Trump's Scottish resort nearly £25,000

From a ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside an actor dressed up as a 14th-century Scots monarch, to a whistle-stop excursion of their Scottish golf courses, they are routine engagements carried out by Donald Trump’s family while its patriarch is resident in the White House.

But our investigations reporter Martyn McLaughlin can reveal a significant spike in the bill being picked up by American taxpayers for the outgoing first family’s dealings in Scotland on behalf of the US president’s private firm.

Read Martyn's full investigation here.

Gordon Brown re-enters independence debate

Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown has insisted that Scots would vote to stay in the UK if another referendum was staged on independence, but says it would be a "hard battle”.

A repeat of the 2014 vote is not wanted by most Scots, according to the ex-Labour leader, despite polls showing that a majority of people north of the Border now support independence.

Read Mr Brown's full comments here.

Fraud alert

A major campaign targeting fraudsters has been launched after it emerged the number of cases in Scotland has risen by almost a quarter in a year.

Elderly and vulnerable people are often at the most risk from scammers. You can read advice from Police Scotland on how to keep yourself and loved ones safe here.
