After a dud of a "Thursday Night Football" game, I'm ready for an exciting weekend of football with big games for BYU, Utah and my Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals have looked like two different teams in the first and second halves of their wins and seem to be suffering from an identity crisis like the Cougars.
The Cougars face Notre Dame in Las Vegas tonight after a long week and a half without a BYU game. But which Cougar team will we see? Will we see the team that beat Southern Florida and Baylor or the team that laid an egg against the Ducks?
The Utes return to Pasadena to play UCLA, kicking off their two week stretch against L.A. teams. Utah is looking for a better result than their last appearance in the stadium. A win against the Bruins could assist Utah as they try to punch their return ticket to the Rose Bowl.
Is the Fed’s inflation reduction plan working? U.S. jobs market shows signs of cooling
The U.S. Labor Department released their employment report on Friday, showing the labor market has cooled down after the Federal Reserve's interest rate hikes.
In August, jobs increased by 315,000.
In September, jobs increased by 263,000.
In August, unemployment dropped to 3.7%.
In September, unemployment dropped to 3.5%.
While the hiring increase is lower than the increases in July and August, the Fed will likely continue hiking interest rates to tackle inflation until there's more evidence that hiring and wage rates are slowing down. In August, Utah and other Mountain West states experienced the highest regional inflation in the U.S. at 9.6%.
Arizona's senate candidates locked horns in their debate on Thursday. Republican candidate Blake Masters spent the evening connecting Democratic incumbent Sen. Mark Kelly to the Biden administration for his stance and voting history when it comes to border security and the economy. Kelly accused Masters of changing his stance on abortion and even deleting previous statements on abortion from his website.
The result of the election could determine if Democrats maintain the majority in the Senate or if Republicans gain the majority.

The last time BYU receiver Gunner Romney played in Allegiant Stadium he injured his knee on the Cougars' second possession of the 2021 season opener against Arizona. While doctors initially feared the worst, the injury didn't end his season, but he was in for a bigger health scare before this season started: a lacerated kidney.
Gearing up to play his second game of the season, Romney is healthy and ready to play Notre Dame and prove to NFL scouts that he can stay healthy in the remaining nine games of his collegiate career.
"It’s fun to go out there and play on this stage against them," Romney said. "It’s something I see as a get-back game after what happened to me last year in Allegiant Stadium."
