A Rhode Island elected official for a local school district is making headlines for her extreme stance on using correct pronouns when referring to children. Jennifer Lima is very involved with the North Kingstown school district’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. And lately she’s placed her focus on addressing students by correct pronouns. And while most wouldn’t blink an eye at her trying to ensure children are addressed according to their preference, her extreme feelings about it are ruffling some feathers. Lima has gone on record multiple times to say that she believes addressing someone by using an incorrect pronoun is considered an act of violence. “Any act of violence in our schools which creates an unsafe environment (physically or emotionally by or for any member of the school community) needs to be dealt with accordingly,” LIma stated.
Here’s what else Lima had to say.
