Good morning, and welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022. Mark Ingram's career with the New Orleans Saints -- and the NFL -- could be over. Days after his controversial play in the Saints' 17-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Ingram reportedly will be sidelined for the rest of the season because of a knee injury that he suffered in the game. The former Heisman Trophy winner is the Saints' career rushing leader with 6,500 yards. Ingram was a first-round draft pick of the Saints in 2011 and entered the season as the oldest every-down running back in the league. Ingram's contract expires after this season, leaving his future in jeopardy. Terrin Waack has the story. As Ingram's career nears a potential end, another Saints offensive star's could be just beginning to blossom. Wide receiver Rashid Shaheed has emerged as a big-play threat this season largely because of one rare trait: his sprinter's speed. Luke Johnson has the story on the precocious undrafted rookie from Weber State, who has been one of the bright spots in the Saints' disappointing season. That's it for today. The Saints have an open date on the schedule this week, so the players and coaches are off. That said, we'll still have plenty of coverage throughout the week so keep it plugged into NOLA.com. Until next time, Jeff Duncan |
