This astonishing humanoid robot can happily chat while it works

Built by former members of Boston Dynamics, Tesla, and Google DeepMind and powered partly by OpenAI technology, perhaps we shouldn’t be too surprised that it’s so good

Robotics specialists Figure partnered with ChatGPT creator OpenAI to build a humanoid robot, and the results so far have been astonishing.

The latest video from the California-based startup shows the robot, Figure 01, performing various tasks while holding a conversation with a human. Just like conversations with ChatGPT, it all feels very natural. Except that instead of text on a screen, here we have a robot speaking the responses.

Brett Adcock, who founded Figure in 2022, said in a post on social media this week that OpenAI provides the robot's visual reasoning and language understanding, while Figure's neural networks deliver its fast, low-level, dexterous actions ...

Intel has just launched the ‘world’s fastest’ CPU

Intel’s 'Special Edition' KS chips are meant to be over the top. But the latest Core i9-14900KS has just dropped, and it takes things to new heights of insanity

Intel’s new Core i9-14900KS is a super-clocked version of the already ludicrous 14900K that sports the same great quantity of cores but a boost clock that moves even beyond the extremes of the standard 14900K.

It can hit an unprecedented 6.2GHz on a couple of cores right out of the box, making it the fastest CPU by clock speed ever unleashed upon the public.

But in modern CPUs, cores and clocks are only part of the story. The 14900KS certainly appears to be superfast, but as the reviews now drop, the cost of such raw power is quite steep. Not only does this chip demand a lot from your wallet — it demands even more from your power supply and cooling ...

I don’t know what to do about Roku

Between all the advertising and data harvesting — and now a pretty major account breach that potentially could have been avoided — it's hard to recommend Roku

I’ve found myself thinking a lot about Roku this week. Or, rather, trying really hard not to think about Roku and all the ways it should be doing better.

Roku basically started as a low-cost way to stream Netflix and grew into a wonderfully service-agnostic option. That is, it treated Netflix like it treated HBO. Or whatever other service had a “channel” (read: app) on the platform.

Roku was (and is) inexpensive to buy and easy to use. But I’m just not sure I can recommend it anymore. There are a few reasons for that. First, and perhaps the least problematic, is that Roku is now more of an advertising platform first and a streaming platform second. Those things go hand in hand, sure. But it’s the ad part that’s running the show now ...

Fly through Tesla’s Giga Berlin factory in this epic drone video

Take a trip through Tesla's technology-packed car manufacturing facility in this dramatic drone video

Tesla has shared an epic fly-through video shot at its Giga Berlin facility in Germany.

The electric automaker's three-and-a-half-minute fly-through appears to cover much of the sprawling factory, which, since its official opening two years ago, has been manufacturing Tesla Model Y vehicles and battery cells.

The footage reveals the extraordinary amount of cutting-edge technology that Tesla is deploying — along with a good number of human workers — to make the Model Y crossover SUV.

The drone video captures the various stages of the production process, including casting, stamping, plastic molding, painting, and assembly. The footage also shows the Model Y gradually taking shape, with the finished product appearing in all its shiny glory at the end ...
